Dennis Lehane

Dennis Lehane grew up in Boston. Since his first novel, A Drink Before the War, won the Shamus Award, he has published thirteen more novels: Darkness, Take My Hand, Sacred, Prayers for Rain, The Given Day, Moonlight Mile, World Gone By, and Since We Fell. Lehane’s most recent novel, Small Mercies, is set in the anti-busing violence and racism of South Boston in 1974. It was on Barack Obama’s 2023 Summer Reading List and is under development by Apple TV+ as a drama series. Novels Live by Night, Mystic River, Gone, Baby, Gone, and Shutter Island have been adapted into films. A fifth, The Drop, Lehane adapted into a film. He was a staff writer on the HBO series The Wire and has adapted and produced three Stephen King novels (Mr. Mercedes, End of Watch, and The Outsider) for television. In 2022,  he wrote and produced the critically acclaimed limited series Black Bird for Apple TV+, which starred Taron Egerton, Paul Walter Hauser, and Ray Liotta. Lehane’s next project for Apple TV+ will be Moth to a Flame, (loosely inspired by the true-crime podcast Firebug), which is currently shooting in Vancouver, BC.  Dennis Lehane
